As new devices and technologies continue to be developed, we continually hear about new ways to address the signs of aging that trouble us. Men and women of all ages have gained quite a bit from the development of injectables, lasers, and non-surgical skin-tightening treatments. Another technique that shouldn’t be overlooked, microneedling, is gaining traction among patients of all ages. Here, we point out why that is and why microneedling may be your new go-to anti-aging treatment.
Microneedling is sometimes referred to as dermal rolling. The two techniques are similar in their objective; each creates microchannels in the uppermost layers of the skin. The way in which this is achieved is where they differ. Microneedling is an automated process that creates tiny injuries in a controlled manner. Rolling relies on the particular technique of the provider. Another difference is that microneedling instruments are adjustable regarding the depth of needle penetration.
Why are people flocking to their microneedling provider to have tiny needles run across their skin? Because microneedling is one of the best methods of collagen induction therapy used today. Collagen induction has been a topic of interest among beauty and dermatology professionals for years because they understand the value of this healing protein. In addition to drawing more collagen into the area of treatment, microneedling also encourages the proliferation of elastin. As a result, patients receive benefits such as:

1 – Wash your face twice a day.
Don’t “forget” to take your makeup off after a long day. That’s no excuse.
My view is that for every minute I spend putting on my makeup in the morning, I spend double that time taking it off at night. Cleanse, Tone and Rinse your face in lukewarm water. Cup and fill your hands with cool water and gently pump it over your closed eyes. They need that extra moisture!
Remember that your skin is a living organ and needs daily maintenance.
2 –Sanitize your devices.
You may not think of it as the most important tip for keeping your skin clean and acne free, however, there are 18X more harmful bacteria on your phone screen right now than there are in a public restroom. Grab the sanitizer, quick!! Another tip is to use your headphones if you’re talking on the phone to limit the contact between all the harmful bacteria on the device and your beautiful face.
3 – Stop touching your face!
You touch everything in plain sight, but you cannot see the microscopic bacteria that live on every surface. If you tend to lean your cheek/chin on your hand or if you just have a fascination with feeling your face and fiddling with your eyelashes – Resist the urge! Learn to control your hand movement. You will seriously thank us for this one!
4 – Invest in your Skin.
When it comes to skincare, quality is key. Don’t spend little and often. Go to your dermatologist and get unbiased advice about a range that will boost your collagen production, enhance elasticity and regain moisturize. Invest in products suited to your specific skin type. If you buy a product on the high street at a low price, how can you be sure that the best ingredients are used to formulate that product? Do you know exactly what all those complicated words on the label actually mean? It might be hazardous without you even realizing, it may not even have been produced in a professional laboratory! Remember also, just because you see your favorite influencer/celebrity recommended something, doesn’t mean it will work for you!
5 – Go for a facial
Professionally advising, it is recommended to get a facial once a month. What harm can it do to take an hour out of your monthly schedule to relax with us at Skintology? Can you believe that you’ve been neglecting your skin all this time? Each facial is customizable to the specific client’s skin, with relaxing music, aesthetically pleasing treatment room, aromatherapy and calming and professional technicians we are here to help you de-stress! By ridding yourself of all the stress, you’re waving bye-bye to blackheads, whiteheads, excessive oil and investing in your skin! I think of my monthly facial as paying my rent for my skin. Take care of it now and I’ll have a lovely ‘home’ when I’m older!
6 – Water can be fun!
This is the most obvious and world-renowned part of the skincare regimen! Health professionals recommend 8 eight-ounce glasses per day (half a gallon), however, if you struggle with drinking this much water, try adding a lemon-lime, or even a little dash of pomegranate juice. Make it fun, and make it tasty. This will make it easier, trust us!
7 – Change your Pillowcase Regularly.
Change your pillowcase at least once a week. Can you imagine how many dead skin cells and make-up residue is trapped in yours? At Skintology, we love the luxury of a silk pillowcase and would highly recommend to any skincare fanatics out there that this should be a high priority. Silk surfaces reduce friction between your skin and the pillow which results in much less irritation, fewer blemishes, fewer blackheads, and less of a chance of waking up to a surprise Mount Everest on your visage.
8 – Eat Clean!
This is a given, but we are what we eat. Don’t expect to have good clean, healthy and tight skin if you don’t eat healthily. Learn what ingredients are in your meals and have an eating routine, for morning, lunch and dinner. Lastly, learn what portion sizes are correct. Are you really surprised that you have a double chin and sagging skin if you’re accidentally overeating every mealtime? This will have a remarkable impact on the skin all over your body, not just your face.
Contact us directly, if you have any specific questions about your skin. We offer FREE CONSULTATIONS on all skin treatments at Skintology and personally love to be able to help customize our client’s Skincare routines.

Bikini season seems lightyears away at this point in the year when we and our overcoat are tied at the hip. Talking about body sculpting may feel absurd. There are months ahead during which we can start to think about how we want to look during the summer months, right? Yes. But that doesn’t mean you should wait. Here, we want to talk about CoolSculpting and why now is a great time to turn your attention to your summertime body.
CoolSculpting has made great waves in the body-sculpting world. Many men and women spend hours in the hot yoga studio and spin classes and still struggle with a stubborn little fat here and there. And let’s say that intense workouts aren’t your thing. That’s ok! Just a few fat-freezing treatments, and you can enjoy a slimmer waistline come Summer. The way that CoolSculpting works on fat are by cooling cells to such a degree that the lipids inside of them, the content that makes them expand, crystallize. This is referred to as cryolipolysis, the destruction of unwanted fat by freezing.
One of the important details about CoolSculpting is that the cryolipolysis process only begins during treatment. The body-slimming that you want to see will happen gradually over several weeks. Experts agree that results continue to progress with more treatments, with as much as 25% fat reduction occurring in a given treatment area from each treatment session. 25% sounds like a lot, but patients do need to understand that, as this relates to overall contouring, the visible change is mild – a little at a time.
Another aspect of results that is important to discuss is the matter of weight. CoolSculpting is similar to liposuction in that the goal is to refine the shape of the body, not to achieve a reduction in pounds. Cryolipolysis is more about dropping that muffin top, that double-chin, or the fat that lingers around the bra line. When you see a difference in your shape, it won’t matter what the scale says.
Here is what we need to talk about right now: timing. Keeping in mind that CoolSculpting and cryolipolysis take months to achieve noticeable results, it is ideal to start treatment 3 months or more before you want to show off your newly contoured body. Some sessions may be warranted, and need to be scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart. This also relates to when you want to commence with your body-shaping journey.

Historically, anti-aging treatments have revolved around correcting the various signs of aging. At a certain age, a man or woman may consult with a cosmetic surgeon about ways to smooth and lift the skin, reduce dark spots, and look youthful. Today, anti-aging may mean something other than chasing after every little wrinkle. Instead of looking for remedies to problems that have already developed, the new trend is to prevent them from developing too early.
Up through our teenage years, the body holds a nice amount of fat in the places it is most needed. This is especially relevant to facial structure. Collagen strands are also strong and resilient during the first two decades of life. As early as our twenties, though, this all changes. The effects of UV exposure begin to take hold in tissues below the superficial surface. Collagen starts to deteriorate ever-so-slightly in part due to this exposure and in part due to biological maturing in the body. We don’t see the consequences of these changes until sometime during our thirties, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start to address them sooner.
Our skin benefits from the earliest possible action. Ideally, in early childhood. During the formative years, what does the skin the most good is sunscreen? UV damage can occur at any time and has a cumulative effect.
By early adulthood, skincare should be more personal than the average, broad-spectrum sunscreen. In addition to high-quality (medical grade) cleansers and moisturizers, young adults should also benefit from occasional treatments aimed at exfoliating and nourishing the skin. Examples include chemical peels, microneedling, and fractional laser treatments.
Injectable cosmetic drugs like Botox and fillers live in the anti-aging category of skin care. However, these products can be quite valuable to the young adult. Botox is becoming popular among millennials who are interested in postponing lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Kybella is an excellent solution for submental fullness, a problem that, if it exists earlier, only worsens as the skin ages. Injectable treatments are the icing on the cake for a younger person who is involved in a well-rounded skin care regimen.

With the development of so many outstanding skin-tightening, facial-lifting treatments to come along in recent years, you would think that any uncertainty about anti-aging protocols would diminish. In fact, what can happen is a person finds him or herself endlessly researching innovative new treatments, ultimately postponing any method that may improve their aesthetic. Here, we want to discuss the differences between a few of the facial rejuvenation treatments we offer so you can better understand which why you might move to get the younger look you want.
Injectables have become one of the most common methods of treating facial aging. Why wouldn’t they? A 10-minute Botox treatment can lift the brow noticeably enough to make the eyes appear more open and friendly. Botox can also increase the appeal of the face by restoring an upward lift to the corners of the mouth. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, work by adding volume. These products can round the apples of the cheeks and add definition along the cheekbones. Fillers are also a great way to reduce the obvious signs of aging around the eyes, such as sagging, puffy lids.
What to know: injectables are convenient, comfortable, and affordable. Results typically last anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, depending on a product.
We are pleased to incorporate minimally invasive thread-lifting into our extensive menu of services. This procedure is conducted in the office using the local anesthetic. There is no downtime associated with thread-lift treatment. Most patients experience mild swelling if that. Our team has been performing instant thread lifts for 6 years, and we continue to see excellent results in patients who want to lift tissues across the midface or another area without the complexity of a surgical lift.
What to know: A thread lift falls in between facial fillers and a surgical lift. This minor procedure provides immediate results that can last years due to the subsequent production of collagen around the absorbable suture.
When loose skin is the problem, Ultherapy may be an ideal solution. This non-surgical, non-invasive treatment has been routinely performed for the past several years. It works by heating subdermal tissues in a controlled manner so as not to disrupt the general health of the epidermis. The heating of collagen within connective tissue causes immediate contraction and lasting improvement.
What to know: Ultrasound skin tightening through Ultherapy typically provides dramatic results with just one treatment. This method may require yearly maintenance for ongoing anti-aging effects.

10 Tips For Your Perfect Wedding
Prepare for your wedding with a pre-wedding facial routine. This will allow you to have your skin evaluated and to establish a regimen to ensure your skin is clear and hydrated. A traditional facial involves cleansing, exfoliation, massage and extractions , however, if you are looking to transform the look and feel of your skin then do yourself a favor and book a laser facial or micro-needling treatment.*
Wax prior to your wedding. It always best to have a treatment at least a few months prior to avoid possible irritation. You can also have laser hair removal.*
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is an excellent alternative to waxing prior to your wedding. It will remove hair in the treated areas.*
Professionally sculpted eyebrows add definition and polish to your face.*
Spray (of course!) tanning should be performed before your wedding.
-Always remember prior to sunless tanning to exfoliate your skin with a scrub to ensure an even application.
–Apply lighter spray to the wrists, knees and elbows.
-Do a trial in advance
-Never go too dark
–Don’t forget to apply behind the ears and under the chin
-It is best to have manicure and pedicure 1 day before
Keep your lips free of dryness by exfoliating and applying moisturizer before your wedding. Fillers such as Juvéderm Volbella are an excellent option to achieve plump well defined lips in time for your wedding day.* It is important to remember to schedule a test run in advance.
Say Yes To Eyes
Eye pencil should last the whole day making your eyes pop out in photos. It is better to choose a super stay formula gel-like liquid or cake eyeliner. Your eye pencil and mascara should be waterproof to withstand the test of dancing and crying.
Sweating can be embarrassing under normal circumstances, however, it is the last thing you will want to deal with on your wedding day. Fortunately, botox injections under the arm will help keep you cool and comfortable and most importantly sweat free on your wedding day.*
Avoid On Your Wedding Day
•Avoid foundation and powder with SPF because the sun protection in these products can reflect light when your photographer takes indoor photos using a flash creating patches on your skin. (moisturizer with SPF is no problem)
•Avoid lip gloss because it doesn’t last long and isn’t kissable (sticky), can smudge and even migrate to your cheeks or hair.
One or two weeks before the wedding the groom should get a proper hair cut. It should be thinned out but not too short to avoid having freshly cut hair on the day of the wedding. On the actual day of the wedding the groom should shave the neck and the chin up to the sideburns.
Last advice to groom; a bit of makeup is okay on your wedding day!
