Understanding Botox injections
Horizontal forehead folds, frown lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes are often the early signs of aging that develop on the face. These specific wrinkles are caused by tension of the muscles of the face, resulting in the formation of these imperfections on the skin. With the use of Botox, a special medication called a neuromodulator, patients can target the muscles of the face that cause these wrinkles and relax them, therefore smoothing away dynamic wrinkles. The medication works by blocking the nerve impulses to the muscles that have been injected, leading to a reduction in the appearance of these furrows and folds.
What does the procedure feel like?
During the injectable treatment, patients will be asked to make certain facial expressions. The Botox medication is then injected where it is needed to achieve the desired changes. Patients find that the initial injections may be uncomfortable, but well-tolerated.
Will my results look natural?
It is a common misconception that Botox injections keep you from making natural facial expressions. When administered by a trained professional and done correctly, patients are able to still make facial expressions but notice far less wrinkles and folds when doing so.
