Permanent Makeup

At Skintology MedSpa by Dr. Jennifer Walden, we understand that applying makeup in the morning can be hectic, and that reapplying it throughout the day can be inconvenient and frustrating. Our aesthetic experts provide permanent makeup procedures to remove this inconvenience and help you achieve the look you desire. To schedule a consultation and learn more about permanent makeup in New York, NY, call us today at (212) 832-2225. Permanent makeup is a cosmetic procedure in which tattoos are used to provide the appearance of makeup. We use the latest and safest technologies and treatment techniques to ensure beautiful results, and we maintain high standards of sterilization to ensure that your treatment is hygienic and without complications.

When you receive permanent makeup, we will meet with you in a one-on-one consultation to discuss the look you wish to achieve. At the time of your procedure, we will provide you with a topical anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. We will then implant pigment into your skin and tattoo your permanent makeup onto the top layer of your skin.

Your results from permanent makeup will be immediate. While your makeup may seem darker at first, the colors will soften over a period of about three weeks as you recover. You can expect your results to last for years, though they will fade over time due to environment, procedure, and individual factors (such as sun exposure, skin tone, the amount and color of pigment used in your permanent makeup tattoo, etc.).

In certain cases, Permanent makeup can also be used to treat hypopigmented scars, nipple-areolar complex coloration after mastectomy with breast reconstruction, and congenital depigmentation conditions such as vitiligo. These procedures can be life-changing for patients who have been self conscious or embarrassed for years with pigmentation sessions. Please call us to learn more about this service at 212-832-2225.

Microblading

youtube-video-thumbnail

Microblading requires the use of a tool with small needles which are used to manually draw delicate hair strokes while also depositing pigment under your skin to create a beautiful brow. This is a form of semi-permanent tattooing as the pigment is not going as deep as a normal tattoo. This allows us to create a softer, more natural look.

This treatment can be done on all skin tones and can match various color ranges. The results can last 1-3 years and depending on the person would require small touch ups.

Microshading

Microshading is a tattooing technique, which fills in the entire brow with light pigmentation through the use of a fine tipped needle. This is a form of semi-permanent tattooing as the pigment is not going as deep as a normal tattoo. This allows us to create a softer, more full and natural look.

What People Say About Us!

I have been going to Skintology Spa for years now. I had different procedures done over the years: numerous facials, microdermabrasion, microneedling, chemical peel, and couple others including permanent make-up. The last treatment that I had in this spa was microblading for my eyebrows. I am very pleased with the results and my eyebrows look great now. As you can tell, I love this place. All the technicians that I worked with over the years: Lola, Yana, Rachel, Gina and others were very professional and personal. They explained everything in the great details and performed procedures perfectly. I never had any issues. Now I am doing research on Ultherapy and planning to come back for this procedure.

Microblading Before and After

FAQs

Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing which gives you the appearance of wearing makeup and helps to accentuate features of your face such as the eyes, eyebrows, and beauty marks.

Do not apply makeup, sunscreen, or lotion prior to your procedure.

You should not need downtime following treatment. However, you will need to avoid sun exposure and ultra-violet exposure (especially from tanning booths) for a minimum of 10 days. Your skin may appear swollen and red in the treated areas, though this should fade within a few days at the most. We also recommend that you avoid using Alpha-hydroxy and Rein-A products during the 10 days following treatment.

Yes. All skin types and colors can receive permanent makeup safely and without complication.

Your initial procedure will likely take two hours or so. Follow-up or color refresher procedures do not usually take as much time to complete.

We apply topical numbing anesthetic, so your procedure is not painful.

Your first visit at Skintology will take around two hours. At the beginning of the session you will work with our permanent makeup artist, Jessica Jung, to establish the shape and style that you would like to see in your eyebrows. Once the two of you have decided on the shape and style, you will look at multiple pigment color options. You’ll use these to match your hair color, skin tone, and your personal preference. Then we proceed with your microblading.

At the completion of your first session, we’ll schedule a second session for six weeks later. This will involve a second application to ensure the longest duration of your new eyebrows.

Microblading takes two sessions. In the first session, Jessica Jung designs the shape and style and applies the color solution with a series of microneedles. After six weeks, you return for your second appointment. Jessica will apply more pigment, as this ensures the longest duration of your new eyebrows.

That’s all you’ll need for your microblading initially. Over time, your skin will shed some of the color, so a touch-up appointment at 12 to 18 months is a good idea to keep your color vibrant and the microblade strokes looking sharp and defined.

Your eyebrow area will be red, slightly swollen, and sore to the touch initially. You’ll need to avoid swimming, tanning, prolonged sun exposure, and excessive sweating for one week. Initially, your eyebrow color will appear darker than the color you selected. This is because it takes approximately four weeks for the color to completely settle in. At that point, it will be the color you selected, and your new eyebrows will be full and attractive.

You cannot let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area for a full 48 hours after your procedure. You may have heard this period as lasting seven days, but today’s pigments are more durable, so really only two days is necessary. Although you won’t want to give your brows the full shower treatment for a week or so. You need to carefully wash your face, avoiding the eyebrows completely. In the shower, you should face away from the water stream and be careful that any water from hair washing runs down the back of your head and back. You can block the area with a washcloth.

We will give you full instructions on what to do after your microblading session. These are things you’ll need to do:

  • Avoid sweating in the brow area for one week after your treatment. Intense, sweaty workouts, long hot showers, pools, hot tubs, and saunas all need to be avoided.
  • You need to keep sun off your new eyebrows for two weeks. Stay out of direct sunlight and wear a hat or visor. Also, put 30+ SPF sunscreen on your eyebrows.
  • Don’t apply any dye to your natural eyebrow hair for at least one month. This can interfere with the skin’s ability to seal in the pigment from your microblading.
  • Smoking and vaping needs to be avoided for one week, as they can impede your initial healing.

Your pigment applied by Jessica in microblading is not permanent. In from 12 to 18 months, the color will begin to fade, as the skin breaks down the pigment. A maintenance session at that point will keep your eyebrows looking great.

There are a few other things you can do to help get the longest duration out of your new pigmented eyebrows:

  • When applying eyebrow makeup, don’t be overly aggressive. Gentle strokes won’t disturb the skin.
  • Retinols, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C serums, and other acids can be detrimental to the pigment integrity. Be careful when using skincare products that contain these ingredients. Any products labeled “anti-aging” will contain acids, and you do not want to use these on your tattooed brows.
  • Oily skin types are not as effective at retaining pigment. You’ll want to use skincare products that work to reduce the oil in your skin. We give patients with oily skin specific aftercare protocols to help with initial pigment retention.
  • When you’re out in the sun, don’t miss your eyebrow area when applying sunscreen.

If you seek to have a permanent makeup application, such as permanent eyeliner, this can be combined with microblading on your eyebrows in the same appointment. Mention this when scheduling your session.
